Shipley Town Council Budget Statement – Cllr Mike Connors – Chair of Shipley Town Council
Shipley Town Council is ambitious for Shipley and will continue to invest in Shipley’s services and facilities in 2024/25. The Town Council has set a budget that will meet local demand to re-open the town’s public toilets in Market Square. This will support the wider refurbishment of the market. New public toilets will also be provided in Saltaire village as part of a new multi-purpose building. Popular leisure activities will continue, including the “Play in the Parks” school holiday programme, the “Shipley Summer Special” fun day and the Christmas Lights Switch-On.
The Town Council is proud of the variety of community and voluntary initiatives which help to improve Shipley in so many ways. Community Wellbeing Grants will continue to support these organisations. The Green Grants participatory budgeting scheme will continue to help address the climate and ecological emergencies. Cost of Living Grants will continue to be provided to initiatives helping those experiencing financial hardship. In addition, the Town Council will be running three of the public allotment sites and will be funding Shipley in Bloom to keep our streets and parks clean and green.
Like all organisations, the Town Council is subject to cost pressures from inflation and councillors have agreed to set a budget which will require a precept of £40.22 for a Band D (average) household. This represents an increase of £5.22 from the year 2023/24, covering a 12-month period.
