Shipley Town Council supports community led actions and local initiatives to address the climate crisis and the Shipley ‘Green Grants’ scheme ran for its third year in 2025/26. Great News! The decision to fund all projects was made by Shipley Town Councillors at their meeting, held in public in the Kirkgate Community Centre, on Thursday 26 March 2026.
£7,700 was available this year for the scheme. Bids for each individual project could be for any amount up to a maximum of £2,000 and should address actions in the Shipley Town Council Climate Action Plan under one or more of the four main areas of: Housing, Transport, Education and Nature. The council’s plan resulted from the Citizens’ Jury Climate Report.
The deadline for receipt of applications has now passed (midnight on Sunday 1 March 2026).

During the awards process hard copies were available in the Kirkgate Community Centre and Shipley Library with summaries on notice boards. This enabled the community to ask any questions about them via [email protected]. It was anticipated that these questions and the answers received would be published but none were forthcoming.
The scheme supports projects local people and organisations would like to run. You do not need to ask for the maximum amount – ideas requiring smaller amounts of funding will be welcome. Groups and organisations comprising young people are particularly welcome to apply together with those who haven’t applied before.

Some previous recipients, pictured below, have created outdoor eco-learning zones at Saltaire Primary School, created a bog garden on the Leeds Liverpool canal spur in Shipley, developed Champions and run “Play Streets” around Saltaire and Shipley, enhanced the planting and learning opportunities at Lower Spring Wood Meadow and community workshops to ‘Knit the Stripes’ showing the change in temperature in the area.
