Shipley Community Awards Open for Nomination

Shipley residents are invited to celebrate their local community at the town’s annual meeting, taking place on Thursday 15^th May 2025 at Kirkgate Centre, 7pm-9pm.

The event will be showcasing the people, organisations, and activities that have been taking place in the town over the last year. This year, the meeting will also host the first-ever Shipley Community Awards, celebrating the individuals and organisations that make Shipley a great place to live, work, and visit.

There are 10 categories people can nominate themselves or others for free in multiple categories via this entry form.

Contribution to the local economy

Example: Promotes Shipley’s retail offer through social media

Contribution to arts and culture

Example: Runs a local choir

Contribution to community engagement and inclusion

Example: Visits older, socially isolated people in their own homes

Contribution to improving health

Example: Volunteers with a local amateur sports team

Contribution to reducing inequality

Example: Adapted a community building to make it more accessible

Contribution to creating a cleaning up the town

Example: Collects litter from the canal towpath

Contribution to education and learning

Example: Serves as a school governor

Contribution to improving biodiversity

Example: Grows plants to encourage bees

Contribution to reducing crime

Example: Co-ordinates a Neighbourhood Watch

Contribution to conserving the town’s heritage

Example: Published the history of a listed building

Nominations Close: Noon, Wednesday 7th May.

At the Town meeting, Shipley Town Council will be sharing updates from each of the four committee Chairs covering the areas of Community Engagement, Planning and Regeneration, Allotments and Green Spaces, and Climate Emergency and Environment.

Community groups and organisations who received funds from the Town Council’s Grants Scheme will be sharing progress and outcomes of their funded projects.

Residents are encouraged to come and celebrate their local community, alongside raising any issues or questions they have to the Town Council.

Councillor and Chair of Shipley Town Council, Mike Connors said: “The annual town meeting is a fantastic opportunity for local residents and businesses to come together and celebrate the place they call home. There’s been lots of activity over the last year in Shipley, and with the addition of the Shipley Community Awards, we’re excited to honour those who contribute so much to our town. We’ll be sharing updates and answering any questions people have about the work of the Town Council.”

Refreshments and nibbles will be provided. All residents, local businesses, and organisations are invited to attend the meeting.
