Shipley Town Council is inviting residents to nominate the people and groups who make the town a better place to live, as nominations open today for the 2026 Shipley Community Awards.
The awards celebrate the quiet dedication, kindness and creativity that shape life in Shipley – from long-serving volunteers and young people leading local causes, to businesses championing the high street. Winners will be announced and presented with their awards at the Annual Town Meeting on Thursday 14 May 2026.
This year there are five categories:
• Long Service Award – for many years of dedicated service to a Shipley group, club, charity or cause.
• Young Person’s Award – for someone aged 25 or under making a significant contribution to life in Shipley.
• Inspiring Others Award – for someone whose actions or achievements have motivated others to get involved, take up a cause or believe in themselves.
• Caring for the Community Award – for an individual or group whose practical kindness or voluntary effort has made a real difference to residents’ wellbeing.
• Promoting Shipley Award – for a person, business or group whose work has raised the profile of Shipley, showcasing its people, heritage, creativity or high street.
“Every year these awards remind us how much goes on in Shipley thanks to people who never ask for recognition. Whether it’s a neighbour who has quietly supported others for decades, a young person with a brilliant idea, or a group that has transformed a corner of our town – please take a few minutes to put them forward. A nomination is one of the nicest things you can do for someone.”
Helen Mawson, Deputy Town Clerk
