Shipley Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting brought residents, councillors and community representatives together for an evening celebrating the people and organisations that help make Shipley such a special place to live, work and visit.
Hosted by the Chair of the Council, Councillor Rhona North, the meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the past year and hear more about the work taking place across the town.
During the evening, local Shipley Councillors shared updates on the work carried out across the Council’s four committees over the last year. Attendees also heard from Ian McIver, Shipley’s new Town Centre Co-ordinator, who gave an update on progress during his first few months in the role. Residents were also invited to ask questions and share their views.
A highlight of the evening was the second Shipley Community Awards, which recognised the outstanding contribution of local people and organisations.
The five winners of the Shipley Community Awards were:
Promoting Shipley Award — Northcliff Miniature Railway, for running a real community asset that brings people to the area and deserves wider recognition.
Long Service Award — Adele Dolby, for 40 years leading Girl Guides in Shipley.
Caring for the Community Award — Muhammad Bilal, for his work with Cancer Research.
Young Person’s Award — Sharmaine Fitzgerald, for her voluntary work organising food parcels.
Inspiring Others Award — Vicky Kesler from Vogue Dance Studio, for the welcome and support she provides to dancers of all ages and abilities, including those who are neurodivergent.
The evening also featured entertainment from Kirkgate Bateria!, whose lively performance helped create a celebratory atmosphere.
Shipley Town Council thanks everyone who attended, all those who were nominated, and everyone who continues to contribute to the life of the town.
