Please see below Shipley Town Council’s response to the investigation and report by Leeds City Council on the night-time aircraft movements at Leeds Bradford Airport
Statement from Councillor Darren Parkinson, Chair of Shipley Town Council’s Climate Emergency and Environment Committee:
Shipley Town Council are pleased that Leeds City Council have decided to take enforcement action against Leeds-Bradford Airport for breaking night-flying rules.
Shipley Town Council wrote to Leeds City Council to ask it to investigate concerns raised by the Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport (GALBA) that Leeds-Bradford Airport had breached the number of night flights allowed during the summer of 2022.
High numbers of night flights can have a detrimental effect on those living under flight paths due to the air and noise pollution caused by the aircraft. Flights from Leeds-Bradford Airport fly over Shipley and any increase in night-flying was likely to have had an impact on Shipley residents.
We hope that Leeds-Bradford Airport will comply with the enforcement action against them and will now stick to the rules put in place to protect people’s health.
