What do we do?

Shipley Town Council is able to comment on local planning applications that come forward. We try to ensure that all development proposed for our area supports the wellbeing of local residents, the environment and the local economy. We also pay close attention to the views of the people of Shipley in our deliberations. We feed in comments to many consultations from national Government, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Bradford Council.

We are also able to support local community initiatives. We have been working to support the establishment of a ‘Community Speedwatch’ group, covering Saltaire and Hirst Wood, and have purchased a speed detection device the community can use. We also supported the Wycliffe Residents Association in their proposal to have Wycliffe Gardens declared an Asset of Community Value – in which they were successful.

All meetings are open to the public and we welcome people coming along and are keen to listen to your views and ideas for action we can take to make Shipley a fairer, greener, healthier place.
